Why is this test done
PT is used to calculate how well or how quickly the body forms clots in case of an injury.
An INR (international normalized ratio) is a type of calculation based on PT test results. A PT/INR test helps find out if your blood is clotting normally. It also checks to see if a medicine that prevents blood clots is working the way it should.
What does it measure
Prothrombin time (PT) is a blood test that measures the time taken by the body to form a blood clot.
What to expect during the test
A blood sample is obtained by inserting a needle into a vein in the arm.
We offer both home collection and the option to visit us at our centres.
Once your sample is collected, it is sent to our laboratories to run the tests.
With your sample delivered, we run the test on our machines and analyse it.
With the analyses done, we prepare a report that describes in detail the result.
